The Residency
Back in 2016, my excellent friend Mike Kershnar was managing an artist residency in San Francisco known as The Growlery. Mike offered me the opportunity to join the residency for a short period of time. Rent-free living in San Francisco was accessible, if and only if, I would create a slew of art to showcase at the house. With that notion in mind, I was more than willing to put in my time and effort. I wanted my art show to be something uniquely special. My focus was to use my time to create art as well as make people smile. So the idea of “The Residency” came about: a fake web series about three artists who all live at The Growlery. Lance was the painter, Sean was the photographer, and Lance was the rapper. The series on youtube was meant to be the prelude to the actual art show where my paintings, photographs, and rap music would all be available.
Two weeks before my art show I had a Traumatic Brain Injury. Unfortunately, I was unable to finish the series and to exhibit my art at the Growlery. Regardless, Mike and the other wonderful skateboarders in our lives raised money and awareness for the potential risks involved with skating. On top of that, I am still alive! The experience made a huge impact on my perspective of life. It truly is a gift for us to breathe as well as to enjoy the gift of time that we have here.
So here is the series. Keep in mind that this is meant to be sarcastic and foolish. It in no way was meant to be serious. Much respect goes out to Nakota Valentine, he was a huge part of making this series. Together we filmed, edited, wrote, and improved nearly all of it. Love you Feke. Major shout out to Nik Boucher for helping me make Mag Money’s music. Major thank you to Kyle Camarillo for this photo at Wallenberg. Please enjoy ;)
